Your child may be intelligent, creative and completely capable, but still find schoolwork far harder than it seems it should be.
They may understand the work but struggle to begin. Homework may be left until panic takes over. Several small demands can quickly become overwhelming. Planners are started and abandoned, deadlines are missed and repeated reminders often lead to conflict rather than action.
They may appear to cope at school, only to become exhausted, distressed or completely overwhelmed when they get home.
Over time, a young person who is clearly capable can begin to believe that they are lazy, disorganised or simply not good enough.
But your child may not need to try harder.
They may need to understand how their particular mind works and develop a method that works with them, not against them.
A diagnosis is not required.
The service may be particularly helpful for young people with busy, sensitive or easily overwhelmed minds, including those with ADHD, dyslexia or autism, whether diagnosed, awaiting assessment or simply struggling with similar patterns.
It is not traditional subject tutoring.
Rather than teaching a particular school subject, the work helps a young person understand how they learn, organise themselves, begin tasks and respond to pressure.
We look at why the usual approaches may not be working and create personalised tools and structures that suit the individual.
The aim is to help the young person:
There is no single system that works for every mind.
The method is built around the young person, rather than forcing the young person to fit the method.
We begin by identifying what is actually happening when the young person becomes stuck.
A task may feel too large or unclear. They may be holding too many instructions in their mind at once. They may struggle to move from one activity to another, fear getting the work wrong or become overwhelmed before they have even started.
Understanding the pattern reduces shame.
The young person begins to see that there is a reason certain things feel difficult, and that difficulty does not mean they are lazy or incapable.

This may include breaking work into smaller stages, visual planning, shorter focus periods, practical reminders, body-based settling, realistic routines or a different way of presenting information.
The aim is not to construct a perfect system.
It is to create a method the young person can actually use in real life.
They may stop trusting themselves and become increasingly dependent on parents to remind, persuade or rescue them.
Your Mind, Your Method helps young people understand themselves more clearly, build evidence that they can follow through and gradually become more independent.
You may feel as though you are constantly reminding, persuading, negotiating or trying to prevent the next crisis. You may know that pressure is making things worse, but not know what else to do.
I also support parents who want to:
For young people under 18, an initial parent conversation and written parental consent are required.
This is a brief parent-only conversation for those who are concerned about a teenager who is overwhelmed by school, struggling to focus, unable to organise their work or losing confidence despite being clearly capable.
You can briefly explain what you are noticing. We will identify the main area of difficulty, discuss one or two practical next steps and consider whether Your Mind, Your Method support may be suitable.
There is no obligation to book any further sessions.

The programme begins with a separate Parent Mapping Session. This allows me to understand what has been happening at school and at home, what support has already been tried and what you and your child would most like to change.
The young person then has six weekly individual sessions. Together, we explore where they become stuck, identify the conditions that help them engage and test practical tools against their real schoolwork and everyday routines.
The programme includes:
During the six weeks, the young person will begin to:
Six weeks can create meaningful insight, practical progress and a strong foundation. Some young people may benefit from a further block of support, while others may leave with enough understanding and structure to continue independently.

My professional background includes medical science, medicine, herbal medicine, teaching and nervous-system support. I also bring lived understanding of ADHD and dyslexia, as well as the experience of supporting my own children through different learning, emotional and educational challenges.
Throughout my work, I have often found myself helping people make sense of patterns that feel chaotic or overwhelming, then translating those patterns into something clear, practical and manageable.
Your Mind, Your Method grew from a simple understanding:
The young person is not always the problem. Sometimes the method simply does not work for the way their mind works.
Your Mind, Your Method is a separate educational mentoring service developed by Dellna Illavia through The London Herbalist.

If your child is bright and capable but struggling with focus, organisation, getting started, overwhelm or confidence around their schoolwork, a complimentary 15-minute Parent Clarity
Call is a simple place to begin.
Please include your child’s age and tell me briefly what you have been noticing. I will contact you personally to arrange a suitable time. There is no obligation to book further support.
It can support focus, organisation, task initiation, study routines, overwhelm and confidence around learning.
It is not a diagnostic, psychotherapy or crisis mental-health service, and it does not replace support from a school, SENCO, GP, psychologist or another appropriately qualified professional.
Where a young person’s needs fall outside the scope of this service, I will recommend that the family seeks the most appropriate additional support.
Personalised herbal medicine is separate from Your Mind, Your Method and requires its own herbal consultation.
